RC Lens maintains cautious approach despite historic season

Following an exceptional 2025-2026 season that included a second-place finish in Ligue 1, a Coupe de France title, and Champions League qualification, RC Lens management is maintaining a cautious approach to the club's future status.

Sporting director Jean-Louis Leca has stated that despite recent successes, including a victory over PSG in the Trophée des Champions, the club does not consider itself a permanent fixture among the league's elite. While new coach Dino Toppmöller aims for European competition, the official club objective remains a top-eight finish, with success also being measured by youth development and infrastructure improvements.

General Manager Benjamin Parrot has also outlined a strict new recruitment policy. To maintain economic ratios, the club has set a maximum transfer fee of approximately 8 million euros per player. Recent funds, such as the 48 million euros from the sale of Mamadou Sangaré to Brentford, are being redirected toward stadium infrastructure, including new professional training pitches and renovated locker rooms.
