RCAF Snowbirds perform final shows before Tutor jet retirement

The Royal Canadian Air Force Snowbirds are concluding their final public performances as they prepare to retire the Canadair CT-114 Tutor jets. Following a performance at the California Capital Airshow in Sacramento, the team is scheduled to perform a final show at their home base in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan.

The CT-114 Tutor has been in service for 55 years, with the air force acquiring the jets in 1963. After the upcoming performances, including a scheduled flyover at the Canadian Football League Grey Cup in Calgary on November 15, the aircraft will be sent to Trenton, Ontario, for disposal.

The Snowbirds will enter a multi-year hiatus until they return with new Swiss-made PC-21 Pilatus aircraft, also known as the CT-157 Siskin II. These new jets are expected to be operational in the coming years.
