RCMP launches accelerated training for experienced peace officers

The RCMP has initiated its new Experienced Peace Officer (ExPO) program, designed to fast-track experienced personnel into frontline policing roles. The first group of 13 cadets, hailing from British Columbia, Yukon, and Ontario, began their training following a ceremony at the BC RCMP headquarters in Surrey.

These cadets bring prior experience from various agencies, including Corrections, Conservation, and Commercial Vehicle Safety and Enforcement (CVSE). They will undergo an accelerated 3.5-month training program at the Pacific Region Training Centre in Chilliwack starting in November, with graduation expected in March 2027.

This new training period is significantly shorter than the standard six-month RCMP Depot training conducted in Saskatchewan. Following graduation, the officers will be deployed to frontline positions across British Columbia and the Yukon. The program is intended to expand to other provinces and territories in the coming months.
