RCMP launches accelerated training for experienced peace officers

The British Columbia and Yukon RCMP have launched the Experienced Peace Officer (ExPO) program, an accelerated training initiative designed to fast-track experienced personnel into frontline police roles. The first cohort of 13 cadets, recruited from British Columbia, Yukon, and Ontario, began their training at the Pacific Region Training Centre in Chilliwack.

The ExPO program lasts 3.5 months, nearly half the duration of the standard six-month RCMP Depot training conducted in Saskatchewan. These cadets bring prior experience from various agencies, including Corrections, Conservation, and Commercial Vehicle Safety and Enforcement (CVSE). Upon graduation in March 2027, members will be deployed to frontline positions across B.C. and the Yukon. The program, which launched in July, is expected to expand to other provinces and territories in the coming months.
