RCMP shooting kills man near Irricana, Alberta

On Friday night, Royal Canadian Mounted Police officers responding to a 911 call on Highway 9 near the community of Irricana, about 60 km northeast of Calgary, located a male suspect. After an altercation, at least one officer discharged a service weapon, striking the suspect.

The suspect was declared dead at the scene despite life‑saving measures, and no officers were injured. The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT) has been called in to investigate, and an internal RCMP review is underway.

The incident is the fourth fatal officer‑involved shooting in Alberta within two weeks, following recent shootings in Calgary, Edmonton and Cold Lake.
