RDCK reports no wildfire evacuation alerts despite active fires

The Regional District of Central Kootenay (RDCK) reports that there are currently no evacuation alerts or orders in effect within the region. However, officials are maintaining close communication with BC Wildfire Services as the situation remains dynamic.

In the Southeast Fire Centre, there are 46 active wildfires, 21 of which are classified as out of control. To facilitate fire suppression efforts, area restriction orders are in place for Mount Rollins, Hope Creek, Poplar Creek, and Inonoaklin Creek, prohibiting entry to these locations. Additionally, the province has prohibited off-road vehicles (ORV) on crown land throughout the Southeast Fire Centre, and the RDCK has extended this prohibition to the Nelson Salmo Great Northern Trail and Glacier Creek Regional Park.

Smoke in the RDCK is primarily drifting from active wildfires in Washington and Idaho, as well as ongoing fires within the Southeast Fire Centre. Residents are advised to limit outdoor time, keep windows and doors closed, and use air filters to mitigate smoke exposure.
