RDN Taxpayers Alliance calls for fiscal responsibility in Nanaimo

The RDN Taxpayers Alliance is advocating for increased fiscal responsibility within the Regional District of Nanaimo. The non-partisan group claims that regional tax revenue is projected to grow by 138.9 per cent between 2020 and 2030, a figure they state significantly outpaces the projected inflation rate of approximately 33 per cent during the same period.

The alliance argues that these rising taxes exacerbate financial pressures on households already struggling with the costs of housing, food, and energy. They are calling for local government tax increases to align more closely with population growth and inflation. To support their cause, the group has launched a tax cap petition and is hosting public presentations in Parksville and Nanaimo featuring representatives from the Canadian Taxpayers Federation and the Business Council of British Columbia.
