RDPC party faces internal tension over Cameroon election appointments

Internal tensions have emerged within Cameroon’s ruling RDPC party ahead of upcoming municipal and legislative elections. On September 9, members from the Mfoundi II section gathered at the Central Committee headquarters in Yaoundé to protest recent political appointments.

Protesters expressed dissatisfaction with the selection of supervisors and mission officers, arguing that the criteria used did not adequately reflect field performance, activity reports, or previous electoral results. A delegation submitted a memorandum to the national president of the RDPC, Paul Biya, requesting a review of these decisions.

The dispute involved high-ranking officials: Gilbert Tsimi Evouna, President of the Centre Regional Council, had previously canceled certain appointments made by Minister Laurent Serge Etoundi Ngoa. However, the Secretary General of the Central Committee, Jean Kuete, ultimately ruled in favor of the former government delegate.
