Rødt proposes crisis package to combat rising living costs in Norway

Marie Sneve Martinussen, leader of the Norwegian political party Rødt, has proposed a new crisis package aimed at reducing everyday living costs for citizens. The proposal calls for cooperation among red-green parties to address rising food and electricity prices.

The three key measures proposed by Rødt include:

• An increased travel deduction for commuters. • A ‘electricity price insurance’ to prevent price spikes next year, alongside support schemes for businesses and municipalities lacking high power revenues. • A ‘fuel valve’ mechanism that would activate if pump prices rise sharply.

Martinussen expressed concern regarding the upcoming expiration of fixed electricity price agreements at the end of the year, noting that uncertainty regarding future rates is causing fear in many households. She urged the government to provide clarity on whether current price levels will be maintained or increased.
