RE 7 train capacity to decrease in Berlin-Brandenburg region

The Verkehrsverbund Berlin-Brandenburg (VBB) has announced that the seat capacity on the RE 7 line, which runs between Dessau, Berlin, and Senftenberg, will be reduced starting November 1, 2026. The number of available seats will decrease from 420 to 270, reversing a capacity expansion implemented in March to handle seasonal passenger increases.

While the reduction is intended to target non-peak hours, travelers have noted high occupancy levels on the line. Regional representative Melanie Balzer has requested information from the infrastructure ministry regarding the decision, noting that trains are frequently crowded. The VBB plans to evaluate the impact of the seasonal capacity changes in 2027 to determine long-term strategy for 2028.
