Rea Garvey discusses long-term marriage and wife's honesty

Musician Rea Garvey has shared insights into his long-standing marriage to Josephine Garvey, whom he has known since 1999. The couple married in Ireland in 2002 and have two children.

During an appearance on the MDR talk show ‘Riverboat’, Garvey described his wife as an incredibly honest critic. He recounted an instance where, after returning from a songwriting trip in America, he presented a new piece to her, only for her to remark, ‘You are not Elton John.’ Garvey noted that while such blunt criticism from a loved one can feel painful, he recognizes it as a part of her honesty.

Garvey also reflected on his Irish upbringing and how it shaped his perspective on relationships. He credited Josephine with being a significant influence on his personal and professional life, noting that she even inspired some of his most successful musical hits.
