REA tool enables AI agents to reverse engineer software
REA (Reverse Engineer Anything), an open-source Model Context Protocol (MCP) tool, is enabling AI coding agents to inspect, decompile, and explain existing software. By acting as a bridge between coding agents like Claude Code and traditional analysis tools, REA allows users to use natural language to understand complex software logic, such as how an authenticator app generates codes or how specific calculator functions operate.
The tool has expanded its capabilities to include Android device inspection, APK retrieval, and support for various agents including Pi, Hermes, and Qwen Code. It can also interface with tools like Ghidra and JEB for deeper analysis.
This technology is driving a trend in AI-assisted software recreation. For example, Brandon Thomas of ArtCraft has utilized AI to develop several repositories on GitHub that clone major Adobe applications, including Photoshop, Illustrator, and Premiere Pro, using Rust and Claude Opus.
