Reach to cut 220 editorial jobs and close three regional titles

Reach, the publisher of the Daily Mirror and Daily Express, is cutting 220 editorial roles as part of a cost-cutting restructuring. The company is also reducing approximately 65 roles within its commercial division.

As part of the overhaul, Reach will close three regional titles: KentLive, AberdeenLive, and GalwayBeo. Chief content officer David Higgerson attributed the decision to industry-wide challenges, specifically citing a decline in Google search referral traffic and increased competition from the BBC in regional markets.

To offset some losses, the company plans to create 60 new roles in areas such as subscriptions and long-form video. Reach has initiated a minimum 45-day consultation period with employees and stated it will attempt to redeploy staff to minimize compulsory redundancies.
