Reading aloud benefits child development and emotional growth

Reading aloud to children provides significant developmental benefits even before they achieve full literacy. Engaging with stories helps expand vocabulary, improves memory, and enhances concentration and expression. It also allows children to explore complex emotions and social situations through characters, helping them recognize feelings and understand the consequences of choices.

Beyond cognitive development, shared reading strengthens the bond between parents and children by creating dedicated time for interaction and conversation. Establishing a routine of just ten to fifteen minutes a day can help foster a lifelong reading habit.

Recent literary releases for children aged 5 to 10 focus on emotional intelligence and social navigation. Notable titles include ‘O Livro da Timidez’ and ‘O Livro da Ansiedade’ by Howard Pearlstein, which address confidence and worry. Other works, such as ‘O Pedro Gosta da Escola’ by Ana Maria Magalhães and Isabel Alçada, explore themes of friendship, respect for differences, and school social dynamics.
