Reading initiatives highlight psychological and social benefits

The benefits of reading for psychological well-being and social connection are being highlighted through both theoretical reflection and local community initiatives.

Reflecting on the relationship between narrative and emotion, Ceridwen Dovey explores how reading fiction can offer a sense of transcendence and empathy by allowing individuals to experience diverse perspectives. This perspective suggests that literature serves as a tool for mental well-being and a way to connect with the broader human experience in a fast-paced, secular world.

In Mirandola, the Biblioteca Garin is putting these concepts into practice by launching its autumn-winter season of reading groups. The initiative features five distinct paths designed to foster social cohesion and inclusion. Collaborating with various local organizations, the library aims to act as a cultural infrastructure where shared reading serves as a bridge for community interaction, listening, and mutual discovery.
