Erie, Pennsylvania mass shooting leaves nine dead

A mass shooting in Erie, Pennsylvania, resulted in nine deaths on Friday evening, including eight victims and the 45-year-old gunman who died from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. The incident occurred near the intersection of Perry Street and East 7th Street.

Authorities reported that the shooting began around 5:00 p.m. after a ShotSpotter system detected gunfire. Two women were found dead outside the residence, having been shot after appearing distressed and knocking on the door. Inside the home, police discovered additional victims, including a five-year-old boy, a one-year-old girl, and a woman who was eight months pregnant.

Erie Police Chief Rick Lorah stated that the gunman was related to seven of the victims, while the eighth victim was a friend of the pregnant woman. The motive for the attack remains under investigation. Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro has offered support to Erie Mayor Daria Devlin following the tragedy.
