Reagan biopic producer disputes YouTube ad restrictions
Producer Mark Joseph has accused YouTube of suppressing promotional content for the 2024 biopic ‘Reagan’ by classifying interview clips as election advertising. Joseph stated that the platform blocked ads featuring various entertainers and newsmakers, despite his assertion that the content focuses on the film rather than political campaigns.
YouTube responded by stating that some advertisements referenced officeholders, triggering U.S. election ads policies that require advertiser certification. The platform also noted that one specific advertisement was rejected due to profanity. Joseph reported facing similar advertising limitations on Facebook.
A director’s cut of the film, including 10 additional minutes of footage, is scheduled to be released in approximately 600 theaters on September 25. Additionally, a recent poll by Foundations of Freedom ranked Dennis Quaid’s portrayal of Ronald Reagan as the third favorite presidential performance in film and television, following Daniel Day-Lewis and Robin Williams.
