Real Albergo dei Poveri reopens in Naples for cultural events
The Real Albergo dei Poveri in Naples is reopening its spaces to the public for a series of free cultural events running from October 6 to 16. While restoration work continues on the large complex in Piazza Carlo III, the patio, auditorium, and terrace will host performances, music, and workshops.
Curated by artistic director Laura Valente, the program is organized by the Municipality of Naples and funded by the Metropolitan City of Naples. The scheduled events focus on themes of hospitality, migration, and diasporas. The series marks the first part of the 'Futuro Quotidiano' program and the launch of the second edition of civic and cultural workshops.
The program begins on October 6 with 'Fame', a site-specific play directed by Armando Punzo, inspired by the novel by Knut Hamsun. Other scheduled activities include musical projects on the terrace, such as 'È per loro' by Gianni Valentino, which explores historical slave trade routes between Naples and Istanbul.
