FC Barcelona eyes Laporte, Romero and Alvarez as key transfer targets
FC Barcelona is actively scouting new players to rebuild its squad for the 2026‑27 season. On the defensive side the club has identified Aymeric Laporte of Athletic Bilbao and Tottenham centre‑back Cristian Romero, both finalists in the 2026 World Cup final, as its top priorities, though both are under long‑term contracts that could drive up the price. In attack, Barcelona’s priority is Julian Alvarez, currently on loan at Atlético Madrid, with alternatives such as Colombian striker Jhon Duran (Al Nassr) and Hoffenheim forward Fisnik Asllani being kept under review. The club is also monitoring Brazilian teenage prospect Rayan from Bournemouth, but a high release clause and a contract running to 2027 make a move unlikely this summer. Hansi Flick, the new coach, stresses that any incoming signings will depend on the club’s ability to sell current defenders to free up funds and squad space.
