Real Club Náutico de Madrid fire destroys most of Soling fleet

A wildfire reached the Real Club Náutico de Madrid on 24–28 July 2026, near the Embalse de San Juan in the Madrid region. Fourteen of the club's sixteen Soling keelboats were destroyed while stored on land, and several other vessels and facilities were damaged. No injuries were reported.

Club president Tobi Carrasco said the priority was safety and noted the loss of the boats would hinder upcoming regattas. The club, a non‑profit sailing centre with a 70‑year history, closed its premises to prevent looting while authorities investigate the fire’s cause. Rebuilding the Soling fleet will be difficult because the boats are no longer mass‑produced and must be sourced from across Europe.
