Real estate sales suspended in Bolivia amid consumer protection measures

In Bolivia, activist María Galindo announced progress in protecting home and lot buyers following meetings with Vice Minister of Commerce Gustavo Serrano and Consumer Defense authorities. As a result, the Consumer Defense Directorate has ordered real estate companies to suspend commercial activities starting Monday. This suspension includes halting the sale of lots and the collection of fees until contracts and addenda undergo a formal review process. A ministerial resolution is expected to be approved by September 30.

In Colombia, the Superintendency of Industry and Commerce (SIC) addressed a trademark dispute regarding the brand ‘Jacoh Jarava & Cohen’. The Jacob Cohen Company opposed the registration, arguing that the name is too similar to its well-known brand and poses a risk of consumer confusion and unfair exploitation. The SIC noted that the denominative elements are preponderant and that the signs are grammatically similar, potentially leading to public error.
