Real Madrid confirms Courtois injury is minor and surveys goalkeeper replacements

Thibaut Courtois left the World Cup quarter‑final against Spain with a left‑quadriceps complaint. Medical examinations at Real Madrid’s Valdebebas facility revealed only a light muscle strain, not a serious injury. The club expects the Belgian keeper to be fit for the start of the La Liga season on 23 August against Espanyol and has ruled him out of the pre‑season friendly with Fiorentina as a precaution.

While no immediate signing is planned, Real Madrid is monitoring several options to eventually succeed Courtois. Ukrainian goalkeeper Anatoliy Trubin, currently at Benfica, is attracting interest from Tottenham, PSG and Aston Villa and is valued at about €25 million. Other candidates being watched include Bart Verbruggen, Gregor Kobel and Diogo Costa, all with international experience. Internally, the club also relies on Luka Lunin and youth prospects such as Javi Navarro.

The medical report has eased fan concerns, and the club’s management, led by José Mourinho, believes the goalkeeper situation will not disrupt their summer rebuilding plans.
