Real Madrid defeats Inter Milan 2-1 in Champions League opener

Real Madrid secured a 2-1 victory against Inter Milan in their Champions League opener at the Santiago Bernabéu. Kylian Mbappé and Federico Valverde scored for the hosts, following defensive errors by Inter's Josep Martínez and Bisseck. Carlos Augusto scored for Inter, who controlled much of the possession and territory despite the loss.

While Real Madrid took the three points, the performance drew criticism. Manager José Mourinho expressed concerns regarding his team's lack of control and failure to follow tactical instructions to maintain possession. Additionally, some fans voiced dissatisfaction by whistling stars Kylian Mbappé and Vinícius Jr during the match.

On an individual level, Mbappé reached a milestone by scoring his 71st Champions League goal, tying with Raúl González for fifth place on the all-time scoring list. Inter manager Cristian Chivu remained optimistic, praising his team's character and tactical dominance in parts of the match despite the result.
