Real Madrid defender Raúl Asensio faces child‑pornography trial in Spain

Real Madrid centre‑back Raúl Asensio will be tried in Spain for alleged child‑pornography offences. The oral hearings are scheduled for 3–7 September 2026 before the 3rd Court of San Bartolomé de Tirajana in the Canary Islands. Asensio is accused of distributing a sexual video involving a minor, while three former academy players are charged with filming the material. The Spanish prosecutor has asked for a prison term of two and a half years for Asensio, with longer sentences sought for the co‑defendants. The defence’s request to dismiss the case was rejected, and the court also noted that the accused had backed up the files to cloud storage before deleting them from their phones. The victims have indicated they would forgive Asensio, but Spanish law requires a formal declaration in court for any pardon to take effect, so the trial will proceed.
