Real Madrid demands resignation of LaLiga president Javier Tebas

A major institutional conflict has erupted in Spanish football following controversial remarks by LaLiga president Javier Tebas. Tebas drew criticism after comparing the communication strategies of Real Madrid and Real Madrid TV to the propaganda techniques used by Nazi Germany's Joseph Goebbels, specifically citing systematic repetition and the construction of enemies.

Real Madrid has responded with a formal statement condemning the comments as “intolerable” and “extremely grave,” arguing they are incompatible with Tebas’s institutional role. The club has demanded his immediate resignation from both the LaLiga presidency and his position as vice president of the Royal Spanish Football Federation.

José Manuel Rodríguez Uribes, president of the Spanish Higher Sports Council (CSD), has called for a public apology from Tebas, noting that while freedom of expression is a democratic pillar, it does not extend to making Nazi-related comparisons regarding a Spanish club.

The controversy has divided the football community. FC Barcelona president Joan Laporta defended Tebas, suggesting his leadership is beneficial for Spanish football and accusing Real Madrid of attempting to undermine the league and the refereeing committee. Meanwhile, fans at the Santiago Bernabéu have staged protests, chanting against Tebas and the ongoing Negreira case during recent matches.
