Sevilla FC disputes refereeing decisions following Real Madrid loss
Sevilla FC has launched a formal complaint and demanded transparency following several controversial officiating decisions during their 4-1 defeat against Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabéu. The club's leadership, led by President José María del Nido Carrasco, traveled to Las Rozas to meet with the Technical Committee of Referees (CTA) to seek clarity on specific incidents.
Key points of contention include a disputed elbow by Real Madrid's Arda Güler against Sevilla's Peque, which the CTA declined to review due to a lack of clear camera angles. Additionally, Sevilla contested a goal by Kylian Mbappé, arguing that a foul by Konaté on Robbie Ure should have been penalized. While the CTA acknowledged the contact as a "field error," they justified the VAR's non-intervention by claiming the foul initiated a new phase of play.
Sevilla manager Luis García Plaza expressed significant frustration, stating the team should have played with ten men much earlier in the match. The club continues to seek official audio from the VAR room to understand the decision-making process.
