Real Madrid hosts Villarreal amid Mbappé's return
Real Madrid prepares to host Villarreal at the Santiago Bernabéu for an eighth-round La Liga match following the international break. Managed by José Mourinho, Real Madrid currently sits fourth in the standings with 15 points, trailing leaders Barcelona by six points. The team seeks to recover from a recent 1-2 derby loss to Atlético Madrid.
Villarreal enters the match in strong form, holding ninth place with eight points and seeking a third consecutive victory. The match serves as a critical test for Madrid's consistency ahead of a demanding October schedule that includes Champions League fixtures and El Clásico.
Kylian Mbappé is expected to return to the lineup after recovering from a left knee hyperextension sustained while playing for France. His return comes amid media scrutiny regarding his recovery activities and reported tensions within the squad. Other squad updates include the expected return of Ibrahima Konaté and potential absences due to injury or suspension, such as Dean Huijsen and Rodrygo.
