Real Madrid manages integration of record signing Yan Diomande
Real Madrid’s record-breaking €125 million signing, Yan Diomande, has yet to make a starting appearance for the club. The 19-year-old Ivory Coast international joined from RB Leipzig following a competitive transfer process that involved interest from Liverpool and PSG.
Despite the high transfer fee, which could rise to €140 million based on performance objectives, manager Jose Mourinho has opted for a gradual integration plan. Diomande has played only 94 minutes across five appearances, typically entering matches in the final stages. In the recent Champions League opener against Inter Milan, he was substituted on for the final 11 minutes.
Club leadership and Mourinho appear to be following a cautious developmental strategy to avoid the difficulties faced by previous young signings, such as Mastantuono, who struggled after being thrust into the starting lineup too quickly. The club aims to manage Diomande’s transition carefully to protect the significant investment.
