Real Madrid nears contract extension for Thibaut Courtois until 2028
Real Madrid is reportedly close to reaching an agreement to extend the contract of goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois until June 2028. Despite the club's typical practice of waiting until the end of a season to decide the futures of veteran players over the age of 30, management is making an exception for the 34-year-old Belgian.
This decision follows Courtois's strong performances, including a recent match against Inter Milan where he made seven critical saves. The club views him as an irreplaceable asset and believes his technical and physical levels remain high. Manager José Mourinho has also expressed continued confidence in the goalkeeper.
While securing Courtois, Real Madrid is also monitoring its youth academy and backup options. Ukrainian goalkeeper Andriy Lunin continues to serve as a reliable deputy, and the club is keeping an eye on promising talents such as Javi Navarro. The club has reportedly declined previous offers for Courtois, as the player intends to remain in Madrid.
