Real Madrid hosts Sevilla amid squad changes and Vinícius suspension
Real Madrid prepares to host Sevilla at the Santiago Bernabéu for a ninth-round La Liga fixture. The match comes as the team seeks to close the nine-point gap with league leaders FC Barcelona ahead of the upcoming Clásico.
Manager José Mourinho faces several squad challenges. Vinícius Júnior is unavailable due to a four-match suspension following a red card against Villarreal. Mourinho has addressed the winger's situation, noting that while the player remains loyal to the club, the suspension provides an opportunity to test tactical shifts. Potential replacements include Yan Diomande, while players like Arda Güler and Endrick are expected to see increased roles following a recent Champions League comeback against AS Roma.
Defensively, Real Madrid receives a boost with the return of Éder Militão to the matchday squad after a long-term injury. However, the team remains without Rodrygo, Ferland Mendy, and Raúl Asencio. Sevilla enters the match looking to maintain their strong start to the season, having not lost an away game so far this campaign.
Recent form for Real Madrid has been mixed, characterized by a dramatic 4-3 Champions League victory over Roma but inconsistent domestic performances. The upcoming match is viewed as a critical test for Mourinho’s tactical adjustments and the squad's depth.
