Real Madrid requests UEFA match change due to Formula 1
Real Madrid has requested that UEFA hold its first Champions League match of the season at an away venue to avoid logistical complications caused by the upcoming Formula 1 Spanish Grand Prix.
The Grand Prix is scheduled for the weekend of September 11–13 at the Madrid circuit, which is located near the club’s training complex in Valdebebas. The club anticipates that security measures and mobility restrictions related to the racing event will significantly impact local traffic and cause overcrowding in the Chamartin district.
By playing away, the club aims to prevent the influx of Formula 1 fans from clashing with visiting football supporters. UEFA has not yet responded to the request. The first round of the Champions League is slated for September 8–10, coinciding with the Grand Prix weekend.
