Real Madrid seeks new midfielder after Rodri joins Barcelona

Real Madrid is actively seeking a new midfield organizer following the departures of Toni Kroos and Luka Modric. The club's efforts to secure Rodri, the former Manchester City midfielder, were unsuccessful after the player chose to join FC Barcelona in the summer of 2026.

Rodri has since become a key figure in Barcelona's midfield alongside Pedri, contributing to the team's strong start to the LaLiga season under Hansi Flick. In contrast, Real Madrid has faced criticism regarding its playing style and has struggled with consistency, currently sitting four points behind the league leaders.

The failure to secure Rodri and the subsequent dip in performance have led to internal questioning of Florentino Pérez’s management style. Despite high-profile signings like Kylian Mbappé, the club has faced challenges in translating investment into domestic dominance, as Barcelona currently leads the standings.
