Real Madrid targets Arsenal left‑back Riccardo Calafiori in summer transfer window

Real Madrid have opened formal talks with Arsenal about signing 24‑year‑old Italian defender Riccardo Calafiori. Arsenal are demanding a fee of at least €60 million, while the Spanish club, under president Florentino Pérez and incoming manager José Mourinho, sees the versatile left‑back/centre‑back as a cornerstone of a planned defensive overhaul. Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano confirmed the negotiations, noting that Calafiori’s contract runs to June 2029 and that the deal will be complex. Mourinho has highlighted Calafiori’s tactical flexibility and ball‑handling as crucial for strengthening the left side of the defence, which currently relies on Alvaro Carreras and a recently injured Ferland Mendy.
