Real Madrid targets Calafiori and Rodri as Mourinho’s first transfer moves

Real Madrid’s new head coach Jose Mourinho has identified Arsenal defender Riccardo Calafiori as a transfer target. The 24‑year‑old Italian, who has been a regular left‑back for Arsenal since joining from Bologna in 2024 and can also play centre‑back, is praised for his versatility. Mourinho’s interest could make a bid challenging, given Calafiori’s importance to Arsenal’s defensive plans.

Mourinho is also linked to Manchester City midfielder Rodri, whose contract runs to 2027. Rodri, a Spain captain, said he will focus on the World Cup and keep his options open after the tournament. Real Madrid presidential candidate Enrique Riquelme publicly stated that a future president would bring Rodri to the club. While the Bernabéu may not have funds for a large fee, a free‑transfer move in 2027 or a low‑cost signing after the World Cup remain possible, especially if Mourinho prioritises the midfielder.
