Real Madrid targets Guillaume Restes as long-term Courtois successor

Real Madrid is reportedly planning for the long-term future of its goalkeeping position. While the club has reached a verbal agreement in principle to extend Thibaut Courtois's contract beyond 2027, the Belgian international will be 36 by the time the new deal concludes.

As a result, the club has identified 21-year-old Toulouse goalkeeper Guillaume Restes as a potential successor. Restes, a highly-rated French prospect with an estimated market value of approximately €19 million, has emerged on the club's radar for a possible move as early as next summer.

Currently, Andriy Lunin remains a key figure in the club's goalkeeping rotation. Having performed strongly during the 2023/24 season in Courtois's absence, Lunin is considered a primary candidate to maintain the position in the interim, though the club continues to explore future alternatives.
