Real Madrid targets Mikel Merino as Mourinho’s request and sells Fran García to Betis
Portuguese coach José Mourinho has listed Spanish midfielder Mikel Merino as a specific transfer target for Real Madrid. Merino, 30, currently plays for Arsenal and is valued at about €40 million. Real Madrid is reportedly prepared to meet that price to add his versatility in midfield and attack.
At the same time, Real Madrid has completed the departure of left‑back Fran García. With the arrival of Joao Cucurella, García became surplus and has moved to Real Betis for a reported €4 million, signing a new contract until 2031 while the club retains 50 % of his rights.
