Banda Sinfónica del Estado de Hidalgo to perform in Veracruz

The Banda Sinfónica del Estado de Hidalgo will perform a free concert at the Teatro de la Reforma in Veracruz on Thursday, September 24, at 19:00. The event, organized by the Veracruz and Hidalgo Secretariats of Culture, celebrates the ensemble's 125th anniversary.

Under the artistic direction of Héctor Javier Reyes Bonilla, the repertoire will feature works by international composers such as Ferrer Ferrán, Alfred Reed, and Robert W. Smith, alongside tributes to Hidalguense composers Abundio Martínez and Nicandro Castillo. Founded in 1901 by Candelario Rivas, the band is recognized as one of the longest-standing musical groups in Mexico.

In separate cultural news, the Veracruz State Youth Symphony Orchestra (Osjev) has launched its second 2026 season, titled ‘Caleidoscopio Sinfónico’. The inaugural concert took place in Xalapa, featuring works by Rodrigo Lomán, Johann Nepomuk Hummel, José Pablo Moncayo, and Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky.

Additionally, the Veracruz Secretary of Culture, María Xóchitl Molina González, highlighted the essential role of women in preserving the state's 13 recognized indigenous languages and ancestral traditions. She also announced plans to restore a vandalized mural near Clinic 66 in Xalapa to protect local cultural heritage.
