Bournemouth defeat Real Sociedad 2-1 in Europa League debut
AFC Bournemouth secured a historic 2-1 victory against Real Sociedad in their debut UEFA Europa League match at the Reale Arena. The English side took an early lead in the 11th minute through Justin Kluivert, following a cross from Adrien Truffert that was confirmed valid after a VAR review. Rayan doubled the advantage in the 20th minute with a header assisted by Alex Scott.
Real Sociedad attempted a comeback in the second half, with Sergio Gomez scoring in the 57th minute to reduce the deficit. Despite dominating possession and creating numerous chances, the Spanish hosts were unable to find an equalizer, as Bournemouth goalkeeper Djordje Petrovic made several crucial late saves to secure the win.
The result marks a significant milestone for Bournemouth, representing their first-ever appearance in European competition. For Real Sociedad, the loss follows a period of inconsistent form in La Liga.
