Real Warri Pikin cancels Delta State comedy show over ethnic tensions

Comedian and actress Anita Asuoha, popularly known as Real Warri Pikin, has cancelled her upcoming comedy show in Delta State due to rising ethnic and tribal tensions. The event, titled "Real Warri Pikin Live in Warri," was scheduled for September 20, 2026, at the Monarchy Event Center in Effurun.

The cancellation follows petitions and demands from groups objecting to the use of "Warri" in the event's title and the performer's stage name. Some protesters insisted the show be rebranded to reflect local identities, specifically suggesting it be called "Live in Effurun" rather than "Live in Warri." Asuoha reported facing threats of disruption and being forced to remove promotional materials including billboards and radio jingles.

In an emotional statement, Asuoha described the situation as a result of "unfortunate divisions" and cited eight years of bullying and oppression within Delta State. She emphasized that her brand transcends local government boundaries and ethnic identities, stating, "I am not limited by my local government. I am not defined only by where my father comes from or where my mother comes from."
