Realdania acquires historic Stenbrudsgården estate in Nexø

Realdania By & Byg has purchased the protected Stenbrudsgården estate near Nexø. The historic property, dating back to 1759, is considered Denmark’s oldest industrial monument of its kind, featuring a quarry lake and garden.

The estate was originally built by royal master builder Jacob Fortling to house management for the Frederiks Sandstone Quarry, which opened in 1754. The acquisition is set to be finalized in the summer of 2027. Following the takeover, the site will undergo minor restoration and interior redesigning to be repurposed as a bed and breakfast.

Stenbrudsgården will join Realdania’s collection of over 70 historical properties. To celebrate the acquisition, the organization plans to publish a book about the estate and will host regular guided tours through its club.
