B.C. Conservatives face instability as MLAs resign and defect

The Conservative Party of British Columbia is facing significant internal upheaval. Reann Gasper, the MLA for Abbotsford-Mission and party deputy whip, has announced her resignation. Her departure is intended to create a seat for party leader Kerry-Lynne Findlay to contest in an upcoming by-election.

Simultaneously, Delta South MLA Ian Paton has defected from the party to sit as an Independent. Paton, alongside former Opposition finance critic Peter Milobar, announced plans to form a new political party to represent those who feel ‘politically homeless’ and dissatisfied with the current direction of the Conservatives under Findlay’s leadership.

These departures follow a series of high-profile exits from the party's executive, including the president, vice president, and executive director, signaling growing divisions within the caucus.
