Rebeca Bernal signs with Manchester United Women

Manchester United Women has officially announced the signing of Mexican defender Rebeca Bernal from the Washington Spirit. The 29-year-old joins the English club on a contract running until June 2029. The transfer, reportedly valued at approximately £300,000, makes Bernal the first player formed in the Liga MX Femenil to move to European football and the first Mexican player to compete in the Women’s Super League (WSL).

Bernal, a captain for the Mexican National Team, brings extensive experience from her tenure with Rayadas de Monterrey, where she won four league titles and played over 250 matches. She most recently competed in the United States' National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL). Manchester United’s director of women’s football, Matt Johnson, praised her as an exceptional player who provides quality, leadership, and experience to the squad.

Bernal is expected to be available for the season opener against London City Lionesses on September 4, 2026, under the leadership of head coach Eva Olid.
