Rebeca Bernal nears transfer from Washington Spirit to Manchester United

Mexican defender Rebeca Bernal is nearing a transfer from the Washington Spirit of the NWSL to Manchester United in the English Women's Super League. Reports indicate that negotiations between the two clubs are in advanced stages.

Bernal, a regular for the Mexican National Team, was notably absent from Washington Spirit's recent 1-0 victory over Bay FC, fueling speculation regarding the imminent move. The deal is expected to be finalized before the WSL transfer deadline on September 3.

If the move is completed, Bernal would become the first Mexican player to represent Manchester United and the first to play in the Women's Super League. She previously played for Rayadas de Monterrey in Mexico before joining the Washington Spirit in February 2025.
