Rebeca Bernal signs with Manchester United
Mexican footballer Rebeca Bernal has signed with Manchester United, becoming the first Mexican player to compete in the English Women’s Super League (WSL). The defender has signed a contract with the club through June 2029.
Bernal joins the English side from the Washington Spirit of the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL). Her career includes a significant tenure with Rayadas de Monterrey in Mexico, where she played over 250 matches, scored approximately 66 to 70 goals, and won four league titles.
Manchester United’s director of women’s football, Matt Johnson, described Bernal as an exceptional player who brings quality, leadership, and experience to the squad. Bernal is noted as the first player formed in the Mexican women's league since its inception in 2017 to move to European football.
