Incumbent Assemblymember Rebecca Bauer-Kahan (D-Orinda) and challenger Joe Rubay (R-Alamo) will face each other in a runoff election for California's State Assembly District 16. This marks the fourth time the two candidates have competed for the seat since 2020.

Both candidates advanced from a three-candidate primary under California’s top-two primary system. The district encompasses several areas, including Pleasanton, Livermore, San Ramon, Danville, Dublin, Alamo, Lafayette, Moraga, Orinda, and Walnut Creek.

Bauer-Kahan, a former attorney and law professor, highlighted her legislative record, noting she has authored over 80 bills. Her stated achievements include work on gun safety, hate crime laws, retail theft funding, and utility regulations regarding wildfire costs.
