Rebel Wilson accused of sabotaging film ‘The Deb’ in legal battle

The NSW Supreme Court is hearing a legal battle between Hollywood actor Rebel Wilson and the producers of her directorial debut, ‘The Deb’. AI Film Productions and producers Vince Holden, Gregor Cameron, and Amanda Ghost are suing Wilson for breach of contract, alleging she sabotaged the film’s release through false and derogatory statements that caused financial and reputational damage.

Legal counsel for AI Film Productions argued that Wilson attempted to devalue the film by making malicious claims about the producers to facilitate a cheap buyout for herself. Conversely, Wilson’s barrister described the film as a ‘risky venture’ from the start, noting that the producers were aware the project might not turn a profit and that the budget had increased from $15 million to $23 million during development.

The producers are seeking millions of dollars in damages, claiming they would have recouped their investment had Wilson not undermined the musical comedy's release.
