Rebel Wilson premieres musical comedy Girl Group at TIFF

Australian actress Rebel Wilson has written, directed, and starred in the new musical comedy “Girl Group,” which recently had its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF).

The film follows Tassie Young, a former pop star who was ousted from her successful girl group. After a legal setback involving a DUI, she begins coaching a group of teenagers at a community center, helping them prepare for a major record label audition.

Wilson noted that the film’s emotional impact was validated during a private screening for her “Pitch Perfect” castmates, stating that Anna Kendrick “cried during the finale number Ride-or-Die.” The production features an ensemble cast including Jennifer Coolidge, Randall Park, and Jamie-Lee O’Donnell, with musical influences ranging from the Spice Girls to Billie Eilish.
