RECAF Project receives $102 million for emission reduction in Vietnam
The RECAF Project, aimed at reducing emissions in Vietnam’s Central Highlands and South Central Coast, has secured significant funding to combat climate change and promote sustainable livelihoods. The project involves a total investment of approximately $102 million, with Gia Lai province receiving over $25 million from the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) and the Green Climate Fund (GCF).
Spanning the provinces of Dak Lak, Lam Dong, Khanh Hoa, and Gia Lai, the initiative seeks to reduce emissions by 6.68 million tons of CO2 equivalent. It aims to benefit 420,000 people directly and over 1 million indirectly. Key strategies include implementing integrated agro-forestry models and developing agricultural value chains that do not cause deforestation.
In Gia Lai specifically, the project will operate across 16 communes through 2028. It targets the support of 12,500 households, primarily ethnic minorities and women, to enhance climate resilience. The project aims to increase the income of approximately 3,000 households by at least 20% and contribute to raising the province's forest cover to 46.5% by 2030.
