Recanati begins safety works at Santa Maria in Varano church

In Recanati, work has begun on the safety stabilization of the Santa Maria in Varano church. While previous funding from the Ministry of Culture for full restoration is no longer available, current activities are focused on essential safety measures managed by the Superintendency.

Full restoration of the site, which includes the former convent and the Leopardi family funerary chapel, is expected to be funded through earthquake reconstruction funds. Local officials indicate that once the necessary decree is signed, project planning can proceed, with a potential two-year timeline for completion. The building has been declared unusable since 2010 due to roof issues, which were further exacerbated by the 2016 earthquake.
