Receita Federal seizes R$ 500,000 in luxury wines in Paraná

The Receita Federal seized approximately R$ 500,000 worth of rare foreign luxury wines during a routine inspection on the BR-277 highway in São Miguel do Iguaçu, Paraná. The shipment consisted of about 45 bottles of high-end labels being transported without any fiscal documentation or proof of legal entry into Brazil.

The vehicle was occupied by five residents of Foz do Iguaçu, including two couples and a teenager. Upon being stopped, the driver claimed he was transporting the beverages as a favor for a friend in São Paulo and was merely providing rides to the other passengers heading toward Pilar do Sul.

No arrests were made at the scene. The vehicle and the wine shipment were confiscated and sent to the Customs office in Foz do Iguaçu. The Receita Federal stated it will formalize criminal tax representations to the Public Ministry for further investigation.
